Mary Schmitt - NPC Competitor

I have always been a very active person.  In high school I engaged in many sports and outdoor activities: track, swimming, travel team soccer, and I was an avid outdoor runner.

When my high school days were over I took on long distance running as my regular exercise and everyday hobby.  I never saw any of the results I had wanted to see, I would pound the pavement, mile after mile… still nothing.

I remember getting my fitness magazines in the mail and thinking how much I wanted to look like those women… the women with the capped delts and the six-pack abs.

I was always “skinny-fat” no matter how many miles I ran.

Eventually I was introduced to the gym, and from that point on it was a love affair.  Lifting weights changed my body in a way that nothing else had!  I soon after became a personal trainer.  Although I had trimmed by body up a lot at that point; I still did not have the physique that I had truly desired.

In order to obtain my goals I needed to clean up the diet in conjunction with weight training.

Once I found the discipline to follow through with my goals it was smooth sailing.

My health and fitness journey has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and this is a feeling that I want to share with as many people as I can.  There is a lot to be said about wanting to quit, and feeling like giving up; sticking with it and following through are defining moments in character.

I want to share these feelings of accomplishment with people, and hopefully someone can reap the same benefits that I did.
