About Me:

My name is Nikki Smith and I'm a wife and mother of a wonderful supportive husband and seven year old boy. I also work as a Project Manager in the Finance Sector in central Melbourne.

Without the great support of both my family and my work colleagues I could not have achieved what I have. Apart from the intensive training, the diet can at times be challenging, so having the support of everyone around me is so important. I think my job as a Project Manager has helped me stay focused and on track when I need it most and made sure I plan time for work, training and family.
I began competing in 2010 after only 10 months of training and was truly amazed at the success I have had as a Novice and relatively inexperienced Figure competitor.

I can honestly say I immediately fell in love with the sport from the day I started training, and from the moment I first stepped on stage in the best condition of my life (at the age of 42) I could not wait to do it all again and again, and continue pushing myself to be the best I can be in this sport.

How I Got Started:

I am relatively new to the sport of bodybuilding, taking up the training aspect of the sport in September 2009, after many years of being fascinated by the amazing physiques of both male and female competitors.I had not even set foot in a gym in 18 years before commencing my journey but felt the time was right for me to start looking after my fitness more than I had in the past.

I competed across a number of federations in my first year in order to gain as much experience as I could.
Towards the end of my first year of competition I was took the opportunity to be a part of the INBA Australian Team, competing in Reno Nevada (USA) at Natural Olympia.

I took this opportunity as I felt this would be a great learning experience, as top bodybuilders from around the world would be competing allowing me to gain much experience that I could use in the coming years. To my surprise I achieved great results taking home medals in three of the four divisions I entered and gained so much valuable information from all those around me.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect that within my first year of competing would I enter so many competitions and achieve the results that I have.

Goals & Aspirations:

Training and competing has taught me many things about myself and those around me, and shown me just much can be achieved through setting a goal and being determined to work towards that goal.

I hope that I have been able to inspire others to also achieve their goals and live healthy happy lives.

After an amazing year I am now commencing my preparations for another competitive season, and planning for each year beyond the next.

2011 update

Well 2011 has seen me continue to train hard and compete again in the latter half of the year.

I spent much of the year working hard on finding a good balance between home, work, parenting and training have found that it seems to get easier with time, or is it just that it becomes such a part of our whole family’s lifestyle that we just don’t notice comp season versus off season.

My focus in 2011 was to compete multiple times and to push myself to back up week after week as I just love everything about competing, from the tanning, bikini’s, to the dieting and the mental focus.

I competed in 7 times in 8 weeks with mixed results, but thoroughly enjoyed every experience, learning so much about myself each time I stepped up onto the stage.

2011 Achievements -
•    INBA Vic Titles- 2nd place Open Tall Division
•    WNBF Vic Titles- 1st place Masters Division
•    INBA Tas Titles- 1st place Masters Division
•    ANB Vic Titles- 3rd place Masters Division

I couldn’t be happier with my results for 2011, so have begun my plans for 2012 in the hope of doing it all again for another year, although may think twice about so many competitions in one season.

Training has become such a passion that it’s gone beyond the challenge of competing to so much more, and is a bigger part of my lifestyle than I could have ever imagined.

I’m enjoying now being a somewhat more experienced athlete, providing me with opportunities to give something back to the bodybuilding community, helping others where possible, and being able to pass on to newcomers the small things that I have learnt, helping them to improve their health and fitness as well as my own.
