ABOUT ME

I was always fairly active growing up, starting early with dancing and swimming but really getting into tennis from the age of about 8. I started playing competitively when I was 10, and continued through high school.
.
When I was 20, I was in a serious car accident. I broke a number of vertebrae and an ankle, shattered four of my ribs, and punctured my spleen. It was a very quick end to all physical activity for some years. I had ongoing back issues, and as a result ended up with knee problems.

In 2003, I had to have surgery on one of my knees, which had been damaged due to overcompensation from the back injury. Following surgery, I started going to the gym - to help with the knee rehab, but also to help strengthen my back muscles as I knew I was likely to end up with arthritis, which I now have in 3 parts my spine.

I initially started working with a personal trainer, and after a while became hooked on strength training. I had always been fascinated by buff bods, and told my trainer one day that I wanted to do a figure competition one day. He laughed and told me I would never be able to compete, as I didn't have the right shape for it.

So I put it to the back of my mind, as he being the trainer, knew best (or so I thought). I never forgot my dream though, and it ended up on a bucket list of things I wanted to do before I turned 30. So in 2007 when I was 28, I woke up one day and thought - It's now or never. I called my personal trainer at the time (not the same one!), and asked what he thought. His words were "awesome - let's do this!!" And so it began.

I started out with no idea about anything - I didn't know anyone really who had competed. My trainer wrote my program, and I wrote my diet, and tweaked it along the way. I had never been in a bikini in public in my life until I got on that stage in October '07. After having suffered anorexia as a teenager, I had ongoing body image issues - so it was a massive deal for me. I went up there with the attitude "if I like it, I like it, if I don't - well I never have to do it again!"...and walked off the stage hanging for the next competition to roll around!

I not long after went on to get my Cert III and IV so that I could help others achieve their dreams, and now that I am a qualified PT -- would NEVER discourage anyone or tell them they can't do something.

I love the world of bodybuilding and figure as I believe it helps to not only build a healthy body, but also a healthy mind. I love seeing what my body can do. I love seeing how far I can push myself, and I love the discipline involved. I know the sport isn't for everyone, but I know that almost everyone in my life that has witnessed our lifestyle have been in awe or inspired by our dedication and discipline.

Goals & Aspirations:

As for my goals - to make improvements with every competition. There is no deadline or end date for me - when I no longer feel the passion, I will hang up my bikini, but until then, I want to get bigger and better and hopefully get the opportunity to get up and compete on the world stage one day.
