I am a 44 year old mother of two gorgeous teenagers and a wife to a fabulous supportive husband.  I work in a full time office admin job and recently completed my Personal Trainer Cert IV course.  My goal is to  work in the health and fitness industry and help others obtain their health and fitness goals.

I have been involved with sport since a young child namely as a competitive swimmer representing NSW at National Swimming Titles.  I love anything active and fitness....running, swimming, bike riding, bush walking, long walks on the beach, wakeboarding, snow skiing to name a few.

I was introduced to Surf Lifesaving when we moved to Queensland as a 35 year old Master achieving State, National and six World Title victories in surf swim, board races and ironwoman events.

Eventually I was unable to continue with Surf Sports due to work and family commitments and it was during this time that I become unhappy with myself as I had no personal goals, was not exercising and eating terribly..eg coffee with two sugars and a mars bar for morning tea was the norm.  Even though I have always been fairly lean I certainly was gaining a good “muffin top” but mainly my energy levels and health were deteriorating and was slowly losing self respect. It was at this low point in my life that two unrelated friends on the one day suggested I consider body sculpting and compete in figure competitions.  I had no idea of the sport, but it certainly intrigued me, so I started researching.

It didn’t take me long to make the decision to enter my first competition in May 2009 as a Masters Figure Competitor.  I found my current trainer, Odette Lydford of SculptHer, and joined a gym in December 2008 and started lifting weights for the first time in my life as a 43 year old.

We had 5 months to prepare me for my first comp...and it was a blast...what a journey....as soon as I got off that stage I knew I wanted to do it all again.  So....a Figure Competitor is what I am today.

To date I have competed in 4 competitions...each time improving...unfortunately I am fairly new at this sport and am competing in a division where some girls have been training for over 10 years.

I am also a hard gainer due to my long limbs....and the judges like to see a bit of muscle....so now I am having a break from comps and concentrating on growing some muscle...don’t worry ....girls cannot get too big (we don’t have the testosterone hormone and we are natural body sculpters)...and I definitely wish to remain feminine (my hubby would not allow for anything else).

Achievements

I have competed in 4 competitions and for the first three did not place but certainly gained experience and a passion for the sport.  My last competition...ANB Asia Pacifics in May 2010...

I placed an exciting 4th amongst some beautifully toned and well presented girls in the 35 – 44 age group (I was 44) and received a trophy presented by the infamous Jo Rogers...an absolute highlight of my Figure Competing to date.

Most Memorable

My most memorable moment....geez....so many really....the whole journey, but one stand out time that I will never forget is coming off stage from my first ever  appearance and feeling self doubt....I was crouched over my sports bag and tears were welling in my eyes because I thought I had failed my trainer by not placing or “achieving”.

And then Odette came backstage all excited and showed my photos to me....at that moment looking at her and then at the photos I could not believe what I was seeing and what we had achieved with my physique and how well I presented on stage...by self doubts disappeared immediately and I was hooked.  It was at that moment I knew I wanted to continue the journey and IMPROVE....set new goals and do it all again...BIGGER AND BETTER.

Why do I love this sport?

Numerous reasons....but the first and foremost is the support and encouragement from all likeminded wonderful people I have met since entering the world of Figure Competing...from my trainer, my hubby and family, to my gym friends and SculptHer team members and fellow competitors.  The support is mind blowing and the people I have met on my journey are just inspirational and beautiful.

I also love how the body sculpts with weight training...all my life my exercise has been totally cardio based and accordingly have always been lean but looking back at photos I had no shape...weight training is amazing for sculpting body shape and gaining lean muscle which in turn burns fat...even while we sleep...how good is that.

I also love the commitment and the dedication required to be stage ready....many of my friends and even my hubby cannot believe how stringent I am considering my “coffee with 2 sugars and mars bar days”....I feel the strongest, healthiest, energized, fittest and most gorgeous I have ever been in my life at the “tender” age of 44.  AND IT FEELS GREAT.

Goals/Aspirations

I am currently training to build more muscle and present a perfect symmetrical physique to the stage in May 2011.  I would love to place and even WIN my division...although a lot of hard work is required to obtain these goals.  I am very excited and I know with my trainer and the support from my friends these goals can be achieved.

I also wish to work in the health and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer to enable others to achieve their goals.  I love working with people and hearing their stories and advising them on a better path of well being and health.

Another goal and aspiration of mine is to become a Fitness Model or obtain a Fitness Magazine profile to become an inspiration to 40+ ladies....to emphasise that there are no excuses, no age limits, no time constraints...if you have a goal...you can achieve it.
